What career advice would you offer to women just getting started in the male-dominated leasing industry?
Men have always dominated the C-suite and leadership roles within commercial real estate. However, things are changing as more women enter the industry from asset management to development. Leasing has continued to evolve over the years and I’m doing more and more deals with other females. I find this encouraging and women in this industry tend to naturally lift each other up and help contribute to each other’s success. There may be a boys’ club but there’s an unspoken girls’ club that I’m anxious to see grow as more women enter the chat. I would encourage a female just getting started to be curious (ask ALL the questions), trust your gut, and set new standards. Just because business was done a certain way 10 years ago doesn’t mean it’s acceptable today.
